I discovered this not too long ago. My dad got this tv series about a white lion and we put it in and the lions name was kimba my first thought was "they stole this from disney" as i got more into it it seemed more and more like the lion king and it also was strange that kimba looked almost exactly the sameas simba but he was white Then i looked at when it was made .It was made before Lion king. So now i started to think "well disney has cheated" i started comparing and to prove my point i have a picture of kimba and then simba
Kimba: ![]() Simba: ![]() Well either way there both amazing shows/movies |

Yes, Kimba the white Lion. My mother used to watch this when she was a child. I too, was amazed at the way Simba and Kimba look.

You can only draw a lion so many different ways before it ceases to look like a lion.

Ah... yes Kimba the White Lion by Osamu Tezuka.
I like the series and I wish the manga was published in the US. I did watch Kimba during my childhood (the 1960s dub by NBC); I think I watched it when it was in syndication in the 1990s, when a relative bought it from the VHS dollar bin, or when one of my relatives rented it for me. As for the Simba and Kimba comparison; yes I do agree that they look a like, but Disney managed to make it "their own". !Man... I got carried away with this topic. |

I told my mom about this when I showed my mom similar photo comparisons. My mom just rolled my eyes at me and started yelling that Disney wouldn't risk their cover and cheat. She also said that it's most likely that the artist worked with Disney for the Lion King movies. Somehow, I doubt that.

Well here is my theory why Kimba and some of Osamu Tezuka's other characters look so Disney like. Osamu Tezuka got his inspiration from the classic disney cartoons like the older Mickey and Miney Mouse cartoons and Bambi just to name a few. So if you read some manga by Osamu Tezuka or watched anime done by him, you noticed some of the Disneyness in it. Not only did Osamu Tezuka get inspiration from Disney cartoons, he also had inspiration from other classic American cartoons as well. I wonder what Osamu Tezuka would had said if he was alive when Lion kind was made. Hm... if I can, maybe I'll scan a scene from one of my Tezuka manga to show you guys what I am talking about.
Kimba the White Lion is from Japan. As for the production company, it was produced by Mushi Productions (a company that Osamu Tezuka created in rival of Toei Animation.). If you meant who has the rights to that certain Kimba movie, the last time I checked it was Genoen/Pioneer Entertainment. |

Kimba the White Lion came twenty years before the Lion King.
