Three Magic Words -
A picture is worth 1,000 words. But what are three words worth? I challenge you to tell me. In this Official Challenge you will be assigned three random words. I challenge you to create a piece of work around these words, may it be art, writing, or anything else you can think of. All words will come from a random word generator. Once you are assigned your words, please edit your post with these words and create your piece. Please edit your creation into the post once you are finished. Prizes will be award as pieces are finished and posted. All works posted must show at least a decent amount of effort. What this means is no two sentence stories, and no thirty second scribbles that were whipped out just to get a prize. This contest is to show off our more creative sides! This is an official contest, the prize will be announced shortly. Thank you, and I cannot way to see your creations! (Get Crackin'!) |

As long as you cite sources anything goes!
(Deviant art has a wonderful stock gallery that is available for free use. ^^ Make sure you check individual sources for their rules on use of the images.) |

I might be interested in joining...
My art sucks though, so I'll probably end up writing something. Have you decided on a prize yet? And/or the three words? |

I assign words to every different player. I still haven't made the prize yet, though I know what it will be.

My entry:
'Sudden', 'Singing', and 'Digital' ![]() Credits to: http://www.wordle.net/ http://dictionary.reference.com/ http://thesaurus.reference.com/ Photobucket Users Created using Photoshop CS3 The first image is a fractal, the second music notes, the third lightning (because I realize they are hard to see). It took me forever to figure out how to get that effect... >_< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Short Story by Jade_Princess For Cyn's contest, Three Magic Words. Inspiration: 'Sudden', 'Singing', and 'Digital' Alexander smiled to himself as he strolled through the park, his digital camera in hand. He was taking photography in school this semester, so his assignment this week was to take pictures that epitomized spring. He had to say, the digital camera was a lot more covenient than those real cameras he'd been using for most of the year, though they usually turned out much better photos. Processing them was a pain as well, with all the chemicals in the dark room- more than once, he'd almost gotten sick from all those fumes. But he still loved photography- he was planning to become a journalist when he grew up, but he would take the pictures for his articles by himself. A flash of green under the melting snow, the delicate stems of tulips and daffodils reaching up to the sky, a robin pecking at a worm in the ground... he took snapshots of them all. All of a sudden, he heard the sound of singing, an enchanting voice, and approached it slowly, as if he was in a trance. Pushing aside a few branches, he stumbled across a clearing he never knew was even there, coming face to face with the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. She even looked better than all the actresses and supermodels that were always in the movies or on TV. Her long, wheat-blonde hair rippled down her back in cascades, and her wide blue eyes were full of innocence and purity. Her beauty was almost unearthly, and she'd stopped singing abruptly as he fell down in front of her. Stammering, he attempted to apologize. "Uh... I'm sorry, for, you know, bothering you" he managed. "If you want, I can, um, leave." The girl smiled, revealing perfect teeth, and shook her head, replying lightly, "You only startled me. I didn't realize anyone was here who could hear me. I'm Diana, by the way." "Alex- Alexander" Alexander introduced himself in turn, blushing slightly. Still, he couldn't help feeling that this was a little strange- even if spring was starting, it was warmer than he expected in the clearing. There was no snow on the ground, there were a few flowers blooming, and most of all- this girl. It was definitely too cold to go out in the outfit she was wearing- a bright floral dress with sheer half-sleeves. But he couldn't get his body to move away from this strange place- like the Sirens, her voice had captivated him. She continued to smile before starting her singing again, which sounded even better close up. But it wasn't in any language he knew, but even if he couldn't understand it, he knew it was beautiful. The words themselves were lyrical, flowing together like the babbling brook, the whisper of the wind, the birds' song. He slowly raised his digital camera, centering the girl in the frame before snapping the picture. She was spring itself. When she finished her song, Diana turned to look at Alexander, smiling softly. She stood up, her dress flowing around her like the richest silk, and walked over to the stunned boy. Reaching towards him, she tilted his head back and kissed him gently on the lips. And then, he lost consciousness, falling asleep with his camera clutched tightly in his hand. Alexander woke up on a bench in the park, and shook his head- that had been a pleasant dream. Glancing at his watch, he noticed that it was almost time to be heading back, or else his parents would start worrying about him. As he took the taxi headed home, he looked through his snapshots, freezing on the last one. It was Diana, surrounded by an odd halo of light. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At the photography show at the end of the year, one of his pieces was chosen to be presented. A snapshot of spring, entitled, "The Spring Princess, Diana." Everyone who saw it marveled at its beauty and simplicity, wondering how the young photographer had managed to capture such an amazing image, with a digital camera, no less. But in response to all their questions, he only had one answer. "I was inspired by a goddess." (Is that okay? Apparently 3 words=686 words for me.) |
